New York Jets Congratulate Giants For Super Bowl Win With Full-Page Ad: Classy Move Or Slap In Face? « CBS New York
A very classy move by the NYJ congratulating the NYG. No doubt about it.

Half Man, Half Amazing - TheJetsBlog.com
Yet another tale of the incredible Darrelle Revis. Best of all, it's starting to rub off on Revis-Lite.

The Castaways of Revis Island
This is just plain sick (and very enjoyable for Jet fan like myself). Pro Football Focus recaps the only 10 passes completed by the opposing team through the first seven games of this season to a receiver being covered by Darrelle Revis, resulting in a mind-boggling 2.9 QB rating on passes thrown in his direction.
Deion Sanders was a dominant cover corner but I haven't seen a defensive back this complete since Darrell Green.

Michael Vick should follow the Mark Sanchez model?
Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist Ashley Fox gives the following piece of advice to Eagles QB Michael Vick:
"Well, there is a way to organize a workout, and then there is Mark Sanchez's way, and Vick would be wise to follow Sanchez's blueprint. It is, after all, the gold standard, and as we all know the Eagles are the NFL's gold standard, so nothing less should do."
As a Jets fan, I have yet to consider anything Mark Sanchez does to be the 'gold standard'. I'd say he's working his way there but thought he's probably still a 'bronze standard' or, at best, 'silver standard' right about now. Then I read Fox's description of the voluntary workout Sanchez organized for his teammates:
"Sanchez recently held a five-day passing camp with 14 of his New York Jets teammates in Southern California, where the quarterback lives in the offseason. Sanchez rented plush villas on the Pacific Ocean to house the players. He catered lunch every day from a local restaurant - including fish tacos - and had a truck on site from the famed West Coast hamburger joint In-N-Out Burger.
Every day, there was an optional morning workout with Sanchez's personal trainer, followed by a film session when the QB reviewed cut-ups from last season, and then an hourlong practice. Sanchez made up playbooks, provided Gatorade, had ice baths set up on site, and even had a postpractice "skills" competition that included a water-balloon toss. He gave away prizes, including a 65-inch 3D television, Meister watches and iPads. Everyone in attendance received sandals and gear.
Sanchez recruited sponsors and trainers. One night, he took the guys to see a Lakers playoff game. The camp even had a catchy name: Jets West.
Not surprisingly, most of the Jets' key offensive players attended, even free agent-to-be wide receiver Braylon Edwards, 40-year-old quarterback Mark Brunell, and veteran running back LaDainian Tomlinson."
This coupled with the comments from Rex Ryan's book makes me very optimistic about Sanchez as a leader. Now, if only the lockout can end...

CFL player pulls a Leon Lett
This is why this guy is a defensive lineman in the Canadian Football League and not someone that's responsible for actually holding the ball in the National Football League.
On a totally unrelated note, I'm headed to the Jets vs. Patriots game today at the New Meadowlands Stadium. I can't wait to see the new stadium.
J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!

LaDainian Tomlinson vs. Curtis Martin
Like many Jet fans today, I was pretty excited about the prospect of LaDainian Tomlinson wearing the Jets Green. When I first read the news last night, my thoughts immediately went to the Jets signing Curtis Martin in 1998 to replace Adrian Murrell. I started to wonder though if that was the right comparison.
Curtis Martin came to the Jets in 1998, when he was 25 years old and still in the prime of his career. Tomlinson will be 31 in June and even if he finds his second wind with the Jets, recapturing young glory is not easy for a running back. That said though, LT has said he would need to alter his game by catching more passes out of the backfield, especially on 3rd downs. If he shows a level of practicality not normally seen in a star athlete in any sport, he may be capable of providing the Jets the leadership they need. Thomas Jones was known as a leader in his years with the Jets and Curtis Martin is considered one of the best locker room presences ever, especially with his tutelage of LaMont Jordan, who coincidentally came into the NFL in the same season as LT.
Also, Curtis Martin's best rushing season came at age 31, when he led the NFL with 1,697 yards rushing. Tomlinson won't be expected to carry the kind of load Curtis Martin did that season with Shonn Greene (out of the University of Iowa) and, hopefully, Leon Washington sharing the backfield. And with a two-year contract, he is low risk with a potential for much higher reward.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Lincoln/Darwin Birthdays and Stimulus Holding Pattern
Amazing that both Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were born on February 12, 1809, exactly 200 years ago today. Newsweek has an article that talks about the impact both have had on our world. For anyone trying to determine who made the greater contribution (as many of the comments on that article attempt to do), let's just accept it as comparing apples to oranges and leave it at that.
The stimulus issue is in a holding pattern today as the House and Senate decide when to vote on the newly compromised (pun intended) bill.
As far as sharing birthdays go, I happen to share a birthday with former New York Jets running back Curtis Martin (May 1, 1973). He was certainly my most favorite Jet player of all time even before I knew we shared a birthday. This guy was good and helped put the Jets back on the map but I didn't like him as much as his predecessor.
