Chris Christie: “Mr. Wilpon, my number, you’ve got it.” | Metsblog

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a diehard Met fan offered to be the team's next GM should Sandy Alderson decide to step down. Since the Mets are the only thing with which I agree with the governor, I didn't bother to watch the full clip to splice out the Mets-related piece. So sit back and enjoy Gov. Jabba the Hut as he talks about his (lack of) accomplishments and adds the Mets GM piece somewhere along the way:

President {insert name here} wants to destroy the Constitution!

Interesting op-ed by Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’S “Morning Joe” in Politico last Monday. This is remarkably, and sadly, a very accurate passage:

“For eight grim years, Democrats worked to delegitimize Bush. Opinion leaders on the left relentlessly bashed the 43rd president on national TV and online, accusing him of being a fascist and war criminal who worked in tandem with Vice President Dick Cheney to destroy the Constitution.

Eight years before Bush entered the White House, Republicans (like myself) glared at Bill Clinton as he was being sworn in as president, immediately declaring him unfit for office. Soon after he was sworn in, extremists began claiming that the 42nd president was a Marxist and fascist who sought to destroy the Constitution.

The ugliness that followed set a dangerous precedent that fed into the shrillness of the Bush era. And as the Age of Bush mercifully came to a close, a cacophony of enraged right-wing voices welcomed Obama to the White House by accusing him of being a Marxist, a fascist, a Nazi and a racist who hated America and was — stop me if you’ve heard this one before — trying to destroy the Constitution.”

Newark, NJ's Remarkable Accomplishment

Living as close to Newark as I do and driving or taking the train through it as often as I do, I've seen not only the parts of Newark that gave it its reputation but also the changes taking place block-by-block, day-by-day. The fact that Newark just completed its first calendar month without a murder is remarkable.

This is a beaten up city that has been the butt of jokes for so many years, including the line from the 1987 film Good Morning, Vietnam, where Robin Williams' character is talking to troops headed into hostile territory and he tells them to be careful because "It's dangerous out there. It's like Newark after dark." (And that is a film set in 1965, a year before the last time Newark went an entire calendar month without a homicide.)

Newark Mayor Cory Booker did a number of TV interviews recently, including those MSNBC interviews posted below from The Rachel Maddow Show and Morning Joe.

Dr. Mehmet Oz on MSNBC's Morning Joe Today

It's been a while since I blogged or posted anything but I had to put the clip from Dr. Oz's appearance on Morning Joe this morning. He very succinctly sums up the non-political reasons why healthcare reform is so urgently needed in this country. He also doesn't get upset or annoyed when Andy Serwer asks him a question that he already answered! Enjoy the clip!

The Stephen Colbert Blog Post

Looks like this week is Stephen Colbert week in politics. He is recording his shows from Baghdad all week and is the guest editor of Newsweek for the week. Here are his "editorial" in this week's Newsweek and a few video posts from Colbertnation.com and Morning Joe.

By the way, I know I haven't blogged in a while about sports (actually, I haven't blogged much, period) but I do have an opinion about interleague play in Major League Baseball that I've been kicking around for some time that I will share when I get a chance.

Enjoy the videos!
